Beginner Exercise

Bench Dips

Bench Dips

What it works:

  • These arms

Who its for:

  • Everyone (especially snowboarders)

Pros:

  • Can do anywhere there is a bench

Cons:

  • Don't try this on a flimsy chair: we need something strong and stable

What it does:

  • Helps us get up off the snow and back to the fun: skiing and snowboarding!

Intermediate Exercise

Floor Dips

Floor Dips

What it works:

  • Same as bench Dips

Who its for:

  • Everyone flexible and strong enough

Pros:

  • This exercise is more functional than bench Dips (first exercise on this page)

Cons:

  • Harder to do than bench dips

What it does:

  • Helps us get up off the snow and back to the fun!

Advanced: Dips on swiss ball

Swiss Ball Dips

What it works:

  • Same as the other dips, plus it strengthens the rotator cuff and more muscles (including some core muscles)

Who its for:

  • Freestyle snowboarders, mostly; also skiers

Pros:

  • Works great: helps strengthen these arms!

Cons:

  • Very tough exercise: but you're tough!

What it does:

  • Helps us get up off the snow and back to the fun:

Getting up after falling

Turkish Get Ups with a Kettlebell

Turkish get ups

What it works:

  • Every possible muscle we use when getting up from the snow

Who its for:

  • Everyone strong enough to do a lunge

Pros:

  • Very effective big-bang exercise

  • Works the abs, arms and legs

Cons: box

  • Some people say this exercise is harder than burpees

What it does:

  • Makes getting up a snap: this exercise works smartingly.

How to do it:

  • As per GIF

Basic instructions:

  • Start my lying on your back

  • Finished by standing up straight

  • Try to hold the weight up in the air the entire time

  • Repeat

Advanced instructions:

  • Start lying on your back with a kettlebell held over your chest and shoulder on the right side

  • Simultaneously start crunching your body up as you shift your weight onto the left arm

  • Sit all the way up until your left arm is straight (trying to keep the kettlebell overhead the entire time)

  • The next part is the part most people struggle with

  • Shift all your way onto your left arm and lift up your butt. Lift your butt high enough that there's a lot of room between your butt and the mat

  • Pick up your left leg and pass it under your butt until it's behind you. Put your knee on the ground.

  • pick your left arm up off the ground so your torso is upright

  • stand all the way up and stepped forward, holding the kettlebell overhead the entire time

  • You're halfway done! :-)

  • complete the exercise by performing all the steps in reverse, starting by stepping back with your left leg and lowering your left knee to the ground

  • lean to the left and put a bunch of body weight on the left hand, picking up your but enough to pass your left leg under your butt

  • Put your left leg out front and slowly, in a controlled manner, by all the way back under the mat, holding the kettlebell over the right shoulder

  • Done! :-)

Can also be done with a dumbbell (below)
